Green Tea Frappe Ingredients

You’ll need the following ingredients to whip up this delicious green tea frappe with cookies and cream topping…

Milk

To make this frappe smooth, creamy and delicious with a bit of sweetness. You are welcome to use whatever milk you would like.

I often like to mix it up with alternative milk such as almond, soy, pecan or coconut for a richer glass.

If you don’t have any on hand, you can make some yourself following this pecan milk recipe!

Matcha powder

Matcha is made of finely ground green tea leaves that are specially grown and processed (source). It has a mild grassy flavour and is naturally green, which makes it such an interesting ingredient to work with both in drinks and in food. Matcha powder can also provide an intense flavour if used in plenty, therefore a little goes a long way.

This green tea frappe has a unique flavour and combines with the sweetness of the ice cream for a lovely blend.

Vanilla Ice Cream

Not only helps with adding to the rich creaminess of this green tea frappe but also to the sweetness. This means you don’t even have to add any additional sugars, it’s all built-in!

I suggest going with a good quality ice cream as it will affect the taste of the end product.

Ice Cubes

The purpose of ice in this frappe is not just to make it cool and refreshing, but also to give it a bit of texture. As you let the drink sit it will continue to melt and dilute the drink, so it’s best served straight away.

Cookies and Cream Toppings:

Oreo Cookies

The ultimate necessity in all things cookies and cream! These are essentially thin chocolate wafers sandwiched together with a cream filling. Not to mention, also vegan and kosher!

They make the perfect crunchy topping for this frappe and are sprinkled generously over the whipped cream. Don’t forget to also spare a few extra whole ones for decoration too!

To prepare the cookie crumb and whipped cream, you’ll first need to separate the wafer cookies from the cream sandwiching them together. The cookies can then be roughly crushed to achieve a nice crumb for the topping and the cream centres get whipped up with the cream, to add flavour and sweetness.

Whipping Cream

Combined with the creamy Oreo filling creates a light, fluffy and slightly sweetened topping. Ultimately taking these green tea frappes to the next level of decadence!

When whipping the cream, just be careful not to overdo it as it will split and separate. Whip until just combined into a thick cream, that holds its shape, to achieve a smooth and creamy mixture that melts in the mouth.

Once whipped and smooth, transfer to a piping bag, fitted with a large star tip nozzle and pipe on top of the green tea frappe mixture. Alternatively, you can also just spoon it directly onto the drinks.

Fruit (optional)

A piece or two of fruit can help make these frappes look even more appealing than they already are, as the perfect finishing touch!

It can also help to cut through some of the creamy richness and add a bit of acidity and freshness. This is however completely optional.

Here are some suggestions for fruity options to consider:

  • Sliced or quartered strawberries, especially in the spring and summer months when they’re abundantly available.

  • Lychee, which makes an incredible pairing with both cream and green tea, is a burst of freshness.

  • Sliced or cubed pieces of mango to add a tropically fruity spin

  • Orange slices for a citrus addition to cut through some of the sweetness.

  • You could even do a cherry on the top!
