Mug of orange, lemon and honey tea

This drink was something that my Mum used to make for me whenever I had a sore throat (which was often an indication a cold was on the horizon). It did wonders to soothe not just my throat, but also my soul and it tasted great! Which meant that I was more than happy to drink a cup or two (although one was highly effective enough on its own).

As I got older and began to make it on my own, it became one of my very own go-to drinks. But it wasn’t just reserved for when I had a cold or sore throat… I also began to introduce it into my life as a drink to enjoy in the winter.

Therefore, it has always been one of my ultimate comfort drinks. Plus it’s just so simple to make! It is so simple that I wasn’t even sure that I could dedicate a whole recipe post to it… But sometimes the simplest things are the best and there’s no doubt this is one of my favourite comforting and warming drinks. Therefore, I thought you could all benefit from it too because, well it’s just a cup of magic. A splendid cup of citrus magic that you’ll want to wrap your hands around as you retreat into a fort of blankets and fluffy pillows.

What You’ll Need to Make This Tea:

There are 4 ingredients you’ll need to make this winter-warming tea…

Glass mug with honey, lemon and orange tea with fresh oranges and lemons

Honey

There is no limitation on the type of honey you could use for this. So definitely go ahead and choose your favourite. The only thing I would suggest is to select one that’s of good quality for the best outcome.

Hot Water

Freshly brewed hot water is used to dissolve the honey, as well as to provide warmth (quite literally). I enjoy filtering my water before it goes into the kettle to boil.

Oranges

Citrus, vitamin C, sweetness and a bit of a tang/ sourness, oranges have it all! I like to go with freshly squeezed and always include the pulp! However, if you’re not one for pulp, then you can always strain it out.

TIP: To get more juice out of your oranges and lemons, first roll it on a bench with the palm of your hand, applying gentle pressure. This will help to release the juices and give you more volume. Which also means less wastage!

Navel oranges are also widely available throughout the winter season, so it’s the perfect time to make use of some fresh produce!

Lemon

For the extra citrus! Lemon provides sourness and tang and makes such a flavour combo with orange and honey. Just like oranges, lemons are also widely available in the winter season!

Mug of hot tea

How to Make this Winter-warming Tea Recipe:

Here are the steps to create your very own orange, honey and lemon tea…

Dissolve the Honey in the Hot Water

  • In the mug of your choosing aka your favourite mug, stir the honey into the hot water until it dissolves. This prevents the honey from lingering at the bottom of your cup!

Juice the Oranges and Lemon

  • Next, juice your orange and lemon. Don’t forget to release the juice first by using your palm to apply gentle pressure as you roll it on the bench!

Mix and Enjoy!

  • Then pour the orange and lemon juice into the honey water, give it a stir to combine and enjoy. It’s as simple as that!
