It’s finally here! The season of gift-giving is upon us and as we head into the busy season, I’ve put together a gift guide to help you through it all. These foodie gift ideas cover all domains from learning new skills to new tools to add to anyone’s toolkit and a few fun options mixed in between- because we could all use some festive cheer around this time of year!
Plus it’s just in time for the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals so you can grab yourself a great deal in the process.
Let’s get on to the food lover’s gift guide, shall we?!
1. A Masterclass Membership
For the forever curious food adventures, this is the perfect gift!
Masterclass memberships provide a whole year’s worth of learning new skills from industry professionals. It’s my absolute favourite online learning platform to expand one’s knowledge of different cuisines, get amazingly delicious recipes and brush up on your skills with the newly launched sessions.
You could learn to:
- Bake like a pro with Joanne Chang
- Indian cooking with Madhur Jaffrey
- U.S. Southern cooking with Mashama Bailey
- Modern Japanese cooking with Niki Nakayama
- Wine appreciation with James Suckling
And those are just the newest classes on the platform! To make this deal even sweeter new classes are added each month for continuous entertainment.
It’s the perfect gift and inspiration for the foodies in your life to indulge in a realm of cooking they’ve never explored before!
Not to mention, the platform doesn’t just stop at cooking classes. There are professionals from all kinds of fields including business, floral arrangements, design, writing, arts and beyond.
Curious to learn more about what Masterclass is, how it works, what’s on offer, who you can learn from and if it is worth it?

2. Ottolenghi Test Kitchen: Shelf Love Cookbook
Yottam Ottolenghi is one of the most inspiring chefs out there and this cookbook is his latest edition to an already impressive cookbook collection. Focussing on flexible and relaxing recipes that are conjured up from ingredients in one’s own pantry, it’s the perfect addition to one’s repertoire.
The idea is all about raiding your pantry for the items you may have forgotten about and turning them into something full of flavour. Ranging from dreamy creamy hummus to pita bread, cakes and savoury porridge, there are too many delicious options!
3. A Food Magazine Subscription from isubscribe
Beautifully photographed food and recipes are presented on glossy pages that one can flick through and enjoy… what’s not to love?! Isubscribe has a great selection of print and digital magazine subscriptions available to gift. You can choose how many months you’d like to pay for and then provide the gift that keeps on giving. The best part is… delivery is free and there are great offers and discounts on the platform daily!
My favourites include:
- Cuisine Magazine: NZ’s well-loved food and wine magazine with restaurant reviews and new product features.
- Dish Magazine: Another NZ magazine full of food inspiration with tips on ingredients and techniques.
- Delicious Magazine: An Australian magazine that celebrates food and the people who produce it, from around Australia to the rest of the world.
- MiNDFOOD Magazine: This features not only great food articles and recipes but also articles on society, wellness, culture and travel.
Magazines are such a great way to read up on all the newest industry news, learn about food trends and admire some stunning photography. Such a great source of inspiration!
4. Bombay Glass Plates from Adairs
These gorgeous glass embossed plates have a lovely floral paisley pattern and are available in 4 colours. Clear, mint, pink and amber (which would be my pick). They’re a lovely special occasion item and are great for entertaining purposes. That means that your foodie friend has got some pretty plates to place their delicious creations on!
They’d be a great addition to their collection of serving ware! Not to mention super dazzling as part of their table setting options for dinner parties, friend gatherings, platter options and so much more!
5. A Bear Brother’s Denim Apron
Everyone could use a good quality apron and these denim aprons are my absolute favourite. There are so many options to choose from including cross-back aprons that don’t even need to be tied, regular aprons with ties, black or original denim. Not to mention the ridiculously adorable embroidered option of lavender or a hot dog.
One of my favourite features of these aprons other than the incredible durability and front pockets is the tea towel loop. This little loop at the front can easily slot in a tea towel so one can have it on their person at all times. It’s incredibly useful for people who always need a tea towel at the ready in the kitchen.
6. Food Gift Sets & Hampers from The Market
The Market is an online shopping hub for all kinds of items including tasty gift sets and hampers full of food! Food gift sets and hampers are such great celebratory treats that are conveniently already boxed up. That means no extra wrapping paper or packaging is required, it’s all built-in. Plus a whole selection of new foods to try is always a winner and you can choose one that suits them, whether that was chocolate or cheese.
Here are some great options:
- Craft Chocolate Gift Box: Assembled by The Chocolate Bar this box has 4 full-sized artisan chocolates ethically traded.
- Father Rabbit Kitchen Kit Gift Box: This box contains a tea towel, kitchen knife, chilli sauce and some pocket salt and pepper all presented in a wonderfully designed gift box.

- Paddock to Pantry The Best of NZ Gift Basket: 8 award-winning Artisan products from chocolate to marmalade all presented in a wooden box with a handwritten message included.
6. Ceramics from a local NZ Ceramicist
There is nothing better than having a whole stash of beautifully handcrafted ceramics! To make it even better, these items are crafted right here in NZ by local ceramicists! There are all kinds of options from large serving platters to cake plates, large serving bowls, dinner plates and tiny ramekins. It’s also a great way to support small local NZ creators and businesses.
Here are my top picks:
- Fume Products: ceramic condiment bowls, plates, bowls, mugs and platters finished with glazing and in a few different colours.
- JS Ceramics: Features sage, pink sand and oatmeal-coloured ceramic mugs, plates and bowls for a pop of colour. There’s even a utensil holder.
7. Herb & Vegetable Grow Kits from The Market
A special one for the green thumbs and food lovers who enjoy the satisfaction of growing something with their own hands. These grow kits come with the supplies they’ll need to foster seeds into tiny plants all in one box. There are so many different options to choose from.
Top picks:
- The Cocktail Herb Kit: grow herbs to use in cocktails
